I assume you can see the filenames on the memory card using Windows Explorer. You've got something strange happening there. I've been viewing A55 ARW files on my Win7 64 machines for several years. I wondered if it might even be some weird a55 specific thing. I'm not seeing some generic file icon or unknown file type I'm simply no evidence of a file even being on the computer. I don't even get a low res JPG version I get nada. I am using W7 64 bit, and trying to view RAW files from a Sony a55v. That seems unlikely, but I remember some Sigma lenses have issues specifically with a55 and a couple of other models, so is there something peculiar to them? Apologies for the general naivety. It apparently cannot decode sony raw or something, I am unable to zoom 1:1. Some of our codecs (DNG, NEF, CR2.) ship with the JPEG option enabled by default, but you can use the supplied control panel configuration applet to change this behavior in a few clicks." Our raw codecs also operate _much_ quicker for large size viewing in Windows Photo Viewer or Photo Gallery when using the JPEG data instead of the raw data as a basis to create the images.

Using the JPEG preview is appropriate in most cases for Explorer thumbnails and quick previews in Windows Photo Viewer, moreover the preview image typically reflects all camera settings such as white balance, sharpening, contrast, picture controls and usually looks better than the "as shot" basic raw conversion performed otherwise.
